NEC Corporation today announced the Asia-Pacific launch of SIGMABLADE: a new addition to NEC’s blade server line-up. The SIGMABLADE system is highly scalable, making it ideal for a range of deployments, from medium-sized businesses to data centres.

SIGMABLADE’s high-density architecture allows organisations to access the cost and space savings associated with server consolidation.

The system consists of the new NEC Express5800/120Bb-6 CPU blade and two alternative SIGMABLADE enclosure units. The NEC Express5800/120Bb-6 CPU blade features the latest Intel® Xeon® Processor 5100 series (including the low-voltage 5148LV processor) and fully-buffered DIMMs to deliver robust server performance.

The SIGMABLADE-M enclosure is designed for medium-sized businesses and can house up to eight CPU blades and six switch modules. The larger SIGMABLADE-H enclosure can house up to 16 CPU blades and eight switch modules. Both enclosure units employ a high-speed backplane board to enable efficient consolidation of servers, networks, and storage.

SIGMABLADE will be available in early 2007, in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Australia.
