Release Date : Tuesday, 09 Oct 2007
News Source : Will Clarke

NEC Corporation today announced the worldwide release of a new converged multimedia and SIP voice solution, “Service Convergence Integrated Platform” (SCI Platform).  The SCI Platform enables VoIP and multimedia services, as well as offering a small start for operators such as fixed-line carriers or broadband internet operators for smooth transition to an IMS-based next generation network “NGN” in the future.

The SCI Platform realizing carrier-class quality, leverages blade-server architecture, bundles a SIP server, an operation & maintenance server and service enablers into a compact, yet highly-scalable all-in-one set.  Operators can utilise the new platform to rapidly develop and provide VoIP and multimedia services or value-added services such as Presence and IP messaging.

The demand for VoIP and multimedia services is growing worldwide as the deployment of DSL and optical fibre-based access continues to grow at an explosive rate.  The SCI Platform consolidates and leverages the comprehensive power of NEC field-proven SIP server range and enables operators to effectively and promptly deliver value-added services to create new revenue.  Moreover, the new platform also ensures fast and easy installation and reduces the initial investment required for NGN services.

The major benefits of the SCI Platform are as follows:

1. A small start solution to establish Voice and Multimedia services

The new platform bundles all functions necessary for supporting voice and multimedia services such as SIP server, an operation & maintenance server, and service enablers, into a compact, all-in-one set.

2. New services to create additional carrier revenue

The new platform enables simple delivery of new services through a variety of service enablers, contributing to enhanced carrier profitability through improved competitiveness and increased ARPU.

3. Smooth transition to IMS-based NGN

SCI platform can be expanded from a small start to a large number of users.    Outstanding scalability can be realized by the addition of a blade server. The new system supports migration from the initial stages of NGN to IMS-based NGN capability through the installation of new nodes.

NEC will demonstrate its thought leadership in broadband technologies at the Broadband World Forum event (Stand 5028), being held in Berlin from October 8-11.  In addition, NEC will introduce the converged multimedia and SIP voice solution, “SCI Platform”.
