NEC Boosts Regional Broadband Networks
NEC has announced the upgrade of its regional broadband network, providing better coverage, increased speed and greater bandwidth across Australia.
NEC will use the network to deliver solutions including high-speed national private networks and cloud based solutions.
Under the Federal Government’s Regional Backbone Blackspots Program, NEC is rolling out 62 new DSLAMs across regional areas of New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia. Completion is scheduled for November 2011.
Alan Hyde, Managing Director, NEC Australia, said: “NEC’s backhaul and core network capacity have been expanded extensively to ensure the continued delivery of reliable, high quality and cost effective services to our customers.”

New UC Platform Unveiled
NEC Australia unveiled its new Unified Communication and Collaboration strategy at CeBIT 2011 last month.
The event showcased the platform which allows UC functionality to be integrated into any business process application and across any device from the desktop, to smartphones and the latest tablets.
It also allows social media content to be integrated bringing Twitter or LinkedIn updates into unified communications interfaces.
NEC also previewed videos which explain how the platform can be applied in Education, Health and Government.
Managing Director Alan Hyde said: “Any business that is looking to integrate communications and social media with their traditional process-based IT applications to deliver a better level of customer service is going to want to take advantage of this architecture.”

NEC Appointed to Government Telco Panel

NEC Australia has been appointed by the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) to the Whole of Government Telecommunications Management Panel.
As a key supplier on this panel, NEC will provide advice on telecommunications services such as network integration and management, PABX management, voice and video communication, carriage service contracts and end users device management.
The panel will help Australian Government agencies procure services to supplement their internal capabilities.
NEC was also joined the Australian Government Data Centre Migration Services Panel in June.

Tablet Phone Previewed
NEC has previewed a new desk phone which docks tablet devices, making the concept of taking your office with you anywhere a reality.
The device is a prototype, but sparked a great deal of interest at CeBIT 2011 in June. The aim is for device to be able to dock popular tablets and smartphone including iPad, iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and NEC’s own Life Touch.

New Head of Displays Appointed

NEC Australia has appointed Daniel Hancox to the role of National Sales Manager for NEC’s Display Solutions. He will drive business growth with the channel and expand upon the strengths NEC has already achieved in the enterprise marketplace with displays, digital signage and projectors.
Daniel has worked at NEC for more than 10 years and has been an integral part of the display solutions business growth. Daniel introduced NEC’s commercial panels to the Australian marketplace and built this area of the business to be one of the most accepted and recognised brands, in several market segments.
