  • NEC’s Cloud Communicator client provides an all in one softphone, Instant Messaging and Presence engine, along with Outlook and Exchange contact synchronisation. It also allows you to initiate and manage audio conferences via a graphical user interface. You can choose between using the in-built softphone or pairing Cloud Communicator with a handset to provide easy and flexible call management through its intuitive interface.
  • See when extension users are available with Presence Panel, a desktop application ideal for front office staff dealing with inbound calls. This application provides a real time indicator of whether an extension user is available to take the inbound call and allows the front office staff to initiate calls via Click-to-Call functionality which leads to a better overall caller experience.
  • Integrate email and voice with e-Call, a plug-in that integrates your telephone directory with your Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange contacts. You can click-to-call from within Outlook and also recognise incoming calls from people in your email contacts list via pop-ups on your computer screen.

What is NEC Cloud Telephony for Business?

Cloud Telephony is NEC’s second generation hosted PBX solution. NEC Cloud Telephony for Business  boasts all the features you would expect to get from a traditional on-site PBX, with a number of additional communication features such as Microsoft Outlook integration, Instant Messaging, Presence dynamic conference management. Furthermore, Cloud Telephony requires no on-site PBX hardware.  All moves, adds and changes to your PBX can be performed remotely by your service provider.

What is VoIP?

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is a category of hardware and software that enables people to use the Internet as the transmission medium for telephone calls by sending voice data in packets using IP rather than by traditional PSTN circuit transmission. VoIP is usually much less expensive than PSTN.

How secure is NEC’s Cloud Telephony for Business?

NEC’s Cloud Telephony uses a number of security technologies and network devices to ensure that your PBX service is protected from external malicious sources. In addition, telephony & Instant Messaging traffic is encrypted and web access is protected using complex passwords.

What access networks does NEC Cloud Telephony for Business support?

NEC Cloud Telephony can be accessed from the Internet and NEC supplied Private Network access. Access to DNS and NTP servers is required in both cases.

Can I use VoIP with a regular (analogue) telephone?

Yes. To use VoIP with your regular analogue phone, you will need to install an ATA (Analogue Telephone Adapter). These devices convert the analogue signal to digital data in order to work with VoIP.

How good is VoIP sound quality?

NEC uses G.711 high quality voice codecs to ensure a high quality of voice is ensured. NEC also provides advice to resellers on the amount of bandwidth and SIP sessions that should be provisioned to ensure that the voice quality and availability is assured.

Does NEC Cloud Telephony for Business support 000 Emergency call services?

Yes. Emergency calls can be placed by direct dialling, or by using a prefix number for an outgoing phone and then dialling the emergency number.

Do my employees need special education to use NEC Cloud Telephony for Business?

No. The NEC Cloud Telephony browser based system administration allows users to easily personalise their individual extension configuration for features such as Forwarding, Follow Me and Find Me (Group Hunt).

What are SIP Phones?

SIP phones are the same as VoIP or soft phones and are used for VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) calls. There are two types of SIP phones: IP Phones (resembles common desktop phones) and Softphones (computer - software phone). NEC Cloud Telephony for Business can be used with a large range of SIP phones. Contact your Service Provider or NEC for a full list of approved SIP handsets.

Can I use my own SIP Phones?

In some cases, yes this may be possible. For optimum quality of service, handsets used should be one of the NEC approved handset list. If you choose to use a non-approved SIP handset then NEC will provide best effort technical support only and service guarantees and Service Level Agreements will not apply.

Do you support autoconfiguration of SIP Phones?

We currently support autoconfiguration of Polycom phones. Handsets must be told where to get their configuration from. This can be achieved through Option 66 in a DHCP server or by manually entering the boot server configuration details.

How do I enable BLF on my SIP Phone?

It is easy to configure an extension with BLF settings when autoprovisioned. BLF settings are configured through your extension's "Directory/BLF List" enhanced services. Please also make sure your extension settings "Presence Enabled" is set to "yes", and "Global Presence" is set to "no".

How do I use the speakerphone/paging function?

We support a speakerphone function on Polycom and SNOM handsets. First configure the "Speakerphone Page Auto-Answer SIP Header" in the extension setting and select the relevant handset option. Then configure the extensions to page using the speakerphone service under "Enhanced Services" of the extension. Then, to use the speakerphone function enter "*399".

How can we use a different ringtone for internal calls?

We currently support this on Polycom handsets. In the extension settings set "Ringtone for Local calls" to "Internal".

Which Ports are required to be opened inside my network for NEC Cloud Telephony for Business and the UC desktop applications to function?

  • for Web GUI Access: - TCP 443
  • for SIP phones: - UDP 5060 (SIP), UDP 10000-20000 (RTP)
  • for NEC Cloud Communicator phones: - TCP 10005, TCP 5038, 5037 - UDP 4569
  • for NEC Cloud Communicator IM client: : - TCP 5222

Does the platform support call recording?

Yes, call recording is an optional feature that can be purchased via NEC.

What is the maximum duration of call recordings?

Duration of call recording is unlimited, but hosting and storage monthly costs will apply.

Can I divert incoming calls to my mobile phone?

Yes. NEC Cloud Telephony for Business includes a number of enhanced services called “call forwarding” and “follow me” that support diversion to your mobile phone.

How do I park a call?

To park a call press the "#" button, then enter 700 and the "#" button again. You will then hear an announcement indicating the extension that the call has been parked on. To retrieve the parked call enter this number.

How many extensions can NEC Cloud PBX provide my company with?

NEC Cloud Telephony for Business comes in a number of pre-defined PBX packages ranging from 4 extensions to 200 extensions.

Is it possible to upgrade my PBX?

Yes. Being cloud based or hosted it is simple for us to upgrade your PBX as your business grows. Simply contact your service provider and enquire about PBX upgrade options and pricing.

Can I have all my local offices and branch offices connected with the NEC Cloud Telephony for Business solution?

YES. NEC Cloud Telephony can be used to connect all your offices (local and remote) together into a common PBX and telephony network. When coupled with NEXTEP’s private network solutions you can source all your connectivity requirements and PBX requirements from the one supplier NEC.

Does NEC Cloud Telephony for Business include conference bridges with remote offices?

Yes. Conference bridges or rooms are simple and easy to create through the PBX administration console. Each PBX package comes with a number of conference rooms as standard, contact your service provider for more details.

Does NEC Cloud Telephony for Business allow all existing extensions within my company to remain the same?

Yes. We can easily configure and migrate all your existing extensions within the NEC Cloud Telephony solution.

What are the software requirements for Cloud Communicator?

Cloud Communicator works with Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7. We do not support 64 bit versions of Office.

We support Plantronics CS50/60 USB

How do I customise the Auto Provisoned handset configuration?

Under Extensions, goto Advanced options and then UAD Auto Provisioning Template. Add your handset configuration to override the default configuration.

How do I get my Auto Provisioned handset to support a different time zone?

Our Auto Provisoned handsets are configured for AEST time zone settings. For other time zones you will need to add the settings under the UAD Auto Provioning Template of an Extension.
