Aviat Networks and NEC Corporation agree to integration of Wireless Transport Business

NEC Australia and New Zealand has welcomed the agreement to transfer its wireless transport business to Aviat Networks (Aviat), a leading expert in wireless transport solutions.

The agreement allows for the continuation of a strong relationship with Aviat and continues NEC’s ongoing transformation and modernization by allowing it to focus its efforts on its strategic business.

NEC Australia’s Vice President – Infrastructure and Communications, Sam Iacono, said the transaction was structured for the best possible outcomes for all parties, including local customers, and that it continued the company’s long tradition of ongoing modernisation.

“NEC have had a presence in Australia and New Zealand for more than five decades and during that time has prided itself on a tradition that values continuous local and global change, and this agreement with Aviat allows that tradition to continue,” he said.

“It also continues the recent history of collaboration with Aviat, and we are confident it will ensure strong outcomes for existing customers, with a smooth transition period without service disruption and the ultimate goal of a better customer experience.”

“This transaction advances Aviat’s strategic goal to create the leading wireless transport specialist and to add meaningful scale to our business,” said Pete Smith, Aviat’s President and CEO.  “The combination of NEC products alongside Aviat’s leading mission critical and high-power radios, all-outdoor microwave radios, multi-band solutions, microwave routing, and software offerings creates a compelling solution set for any customer.  This will lead to new opportunities for Aviat to pursue select Tier 1 business.”

As the largest minority shareholder of Aviat, NEC will assign a board member, ensuring ongoing collaboration and success for both companies, and continuity for its customers.

The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of calendar year 2023.
