NEC Australia joins West HQ in creating an ICT “customer experience for the ages”

Today marks the culmination of more than a year of planning and construction of a major Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Digital Display partnership with Sydney’s newest Entertainment, Fitness, Lifestyle and Accommodation destination, West HQ.

The partnership will see NEC establish West HQ and the Sydney Coliseum Theatre as a showcase venue for technical innovation, some of which will be visible and some not, but all focused on enhancing the customer experience.

The Sydney Coliseum Theatre is a state-of-the-art 2,000 seat multi-mode venue, offering world class concert, musicals and theatrical entertainment.

The partnership includes NEC’s world-class LED display systems for menus, wayfinding, and interactive customer promotions, powered by CiscoVision IPTV. NEC has also partnered with West HQ to develop and deploy market-leading solutions for CCTV security systems, network infrastructure, and across the entire eight-hectare site, free Wi-Fi for guests.

Facial recognition kiosks will assist customers to seamlessly sign into the venue and navigate their way through to the theatre faster and more conveniently than ever before; no doubt a window into the way of the future for entertainment venues everywhere.

Testing of the 20 kiosks installed at West HQ by NEC prior to the official opening has seen verification and voucher-issuing times as low as nine seconds per person.

“NEC prides itself on being leading edge and forward thinking. What we have produced with the team at West HQ is a showcase of what can be done and something we are extremely excited about,” said NEC Australia Managing Director, Mitsuhiro Murooka.

“We all favour convenience in our lives these days and what NEC and West HQ have been able to produce together in this instance is just that.

“This is a world-class venue Sydney will be very proud of,” Mr Murooka said.

The customer experience includes a digital walkway ‘crystal bridge’ with glass flooring powered by the latest NEC LED technology, creating a spectacular, immersive visual feast for customers before they even enter the Sydney Coliseum Theatre.

“This major partnership with NEC shows the desire to keep pace with customer expectations, but all in the name of enhancing the customer experience through innovation, from venue entry through to dining and entertainment experiences,” said Richard Errington, Chief Executive Officer, West HQ.

“To bring this level of technology and sophistication to a venue of our size is no small feat. The relationship forged with NEC has opened the door to some endless possibilities for West HQ and I’m encourage by what the future holds,” Errington concluded.
